Opposing-counsel production portal
Build a selected-document production with Bates ranges, a withheld schedule, watermarks, and download receipts.
Production portal is an optional Firm, Trial, and Enterprise module. An organization admin must enable it under Settings → Modules before editors see the Production portal tab on a case.
How it works
Pending check
Unreviewed suggestions warn before download.
Markings
Watermark, page numbers, exhibit stamp, appendix.
Verify
If flagged text survives, the file stays here.
- 1
Finish review and Apply
Complete every document you plan to produce. Produced rows accept completed redacted outputs only. Approval requirements and pending detections still block release.
- 2
Create the package
Open the case, choose Production portal, name the package, enter the opposing-counsel email and party label, set a required watermark, expiry, Bates prefix, and Bates start number.
- 3
Mark Produced or Withheld
Select only the documents for this production. Withheld rows require a reason and expose metadata only, never a file or file contents.
- 4
Copy the one-time link
Tokens are shown only at creation. Portal access is viewer-only and can be revoked from the package card.
- 5
Recipient acknowledges access terms
Downloads then unlock. Northdocs records that the link token was used (identity assurance: link token only; email is not verified). Every PDF download is served from frozen approved bytes, stamped with its assigned Bates range and the package watermark.
- 6
Review receipts
Each successful download creates a receipt with intended recipient, identity assurance, time, document, network address, and SHA-256 hash of the delivered stamped PDF. Editors see full detail; viewers see hashes without email or IP.
Validation checklist
- Confirm every produced row is completed.
- Verify Bates ranges are contiguous.
- Inspect the withheld schedule for safe metadata only.
- Open the recipient link, acknowledge access, download one file, then confirm the receipt hash appears.
