Privilege spotting and privilege logs

Spot legal privilege and work-product language, record review decisions, and export a case privilege log.

Northdocs has separate Attorney-client privilege and Attorney work product categories. The legal industry pack enables both. Deterministic markers cover common headers, while AI detection can suggest legal-advice communications, counsel mental impressions, and litigation strategy when AI is enabled.

How it works

DocumentBasisDecision
counsel-memo.pdf p.2Attorney-clientWithheld
strategy-note.docx p.1Work productPending
Treat every finding as a review prompt, not a legal conclusion.

Add an entry

From document review, open the action menu on a privilege or work-product finding and choose Add to privilege log. Northdocs links the entry to the document, page, and finding. You can also add a manual entry from the case Privilege log tab.

Record the communication date, author, recipients, page range, basis, and a description that identifies the document without revealing the protected advice. Use Other when the basis requires a matter-specific explanation.

Decisions

Decisions begin as Pending. An editor can mark an entry Withheld, Produced, or Redacted. Final decisions may be corrected to another final decision, but cannot return to Pending. Reviewer and decision time are recorded for final decisions.

Export CSV for spreadsheet workflows or Markdown for a readable schedule. CSV output protects cells that begin with formula characters. Exports include document, pages, basis, communication details, description, decision, reviewer, and timestamps.
